Overview

Thomas J. Kennedy III is a patent agent and research executive with deep expertise in intellectual property, including as an inventor on over 240 US patents and 150 foreign patents. Tom counsels clients on all aspects of their current and potential patents —from patent portfolio development and securing VC funding to organic chemistry, plating, plastics, coatings, inks, energy, and green chemistry. Tom has broad patent experience in all aspects of technical, development, and product management. Tom brings a vast array of professional experience to West Hill clients, having served as Chief Innovation Officer for FloDesign Sonics, Inc. and FloDesign Wind Turbine Corp. and as Senior Vice President of R&D for Spalding Sports Worldwide and Callaway Golf.

Tom prosecutes U.S. patent applications and works with associates in other countries to obtain patents around the globe. Tom also provides white space mapping and analysis to identify the gaps or “white space” in the market to help companies identify areas where they can differentiate and create new opportunities.

Experience

Tom began his career as a chemist. He has direct experience with leading prototype and production processes for plastics, composites, coatings, inks, urethanes, ionomers, rubber, plating and other chemistry disciplines. He is an astute advocate and works efficiently and effectively with inventors, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals.

Before joining West Hill, Tom founded Chemical Innovative Solutions, which develops new, innovative materials, processes and intellectual property, domestic and foreign, for a broad range of industries.

Education

Tom received his bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Connecticut, his master’s in Chemistry from the University of Saint Joseph, his MBA in Finance from Western New England College, and his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Tom particularly enjoys working with entrepreneurial businesses and golfing as well as wine collecting, boating, hunting, and fishing.
